I know, it’s my first time, and I am learning as I go along. But I just happened to spot the BIGGEST mistake in my first chapter. Not something stupid like a typo. I could handle that. No, this time there was one little word that would mess up my one character’s entire story.
Let me just clear something up:
Martin and Luke are NOT brothers!
That’s an idea I had when I first began writing this book in 2021. I thought making them siblings would be an interesting dynamic. But as the whole story evolved, I thought of a much cooler storyline for Martin, which would make it very unlikely for Luke to be related to him.
But after so many read-throughs and edits, I got to a point where I couldn’t see the forest through the trees. Which is why I completely missed one word that remained in the first chapter. “Brothers”.
Ugghhhhh!! I just now changed it in the manuscript, and frantically hit the “Publish” button.
So that was my stress for the week. Also, Goodreads seems to not want me to claim my own books on their site. But that’s small potatoes compared to this. It’s a good thing that, up to this point, only people who know me have bought my book. I’m glad I’m not facing the ire of millions of disappointed fans.
Then again, if I had millions of fans, I’d probably be able to afford a professional editor.
